# Statements and Hoseki Verified

> Create a PDF statement of your self-custody Bitcoin, and what Hoseki Verified means.

A statement is a PDF of your self-custody Bitcoin for a date range. Think of it as a bank statement for your own wallets. It shows opening balance, money in, money out, and closing balance for each wallet.

## Before you start

* **Only verified wallets** can go on a statement. [Verify ownership](https://help.bitcoincontrolcenter.com/accounts/verify-ownership.md) first.
* **Exchanges, manual, and ETF holdings are never included.** Ask your exchange for its own statement.
* **On StartOS and Umbrel,** Mempool must be running.

No verified wallets yet? The page says **First, Connect an Account**.

You need at least one verified wallet.

## Create a statement

**1. Start**

Open **Statements** → **Generate Statement**. You can also start from **Home** or **Portfolio**.

Generate Statement.

**2. Pick dates and currency**

Choose a **Start Date**, **End Date**, and **Currency**: USD, CAD, GBP, or EUR.

![Statement options: accounts, date range, and currency](https://mintcdn.com/hoseki-corp/XCQqCRepRDP5H4K0/images/statements-options.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=XCQqCRepRDP5H4K0\&q=85\&s=edd886b827c7a683f54d7bef299f7fb4)

Dates, currency, and wallets.

**3. Add contact details (optional)**

Open **Contact Information**. **Name** comes from [Settings](https://help.bitcoincontrolcenter.com/settings/app-settings.md). **Address** prints exactly as you type it.

**4. Pick wallets**

All verified wallets are checked. Uncheck any you want to leave out.

**5. Generate**

Select **Generate Statement**. It can take a few minutes. You can close the progress screen and come back from **Statements**.

**6. Download**

Choose **Full Period** or **Monthly** in the viewer. Select **Download**.

![Finished statement ready to download](https://mintcdn.com/hoseki-corp/XCQqCRepRDP5H4K0/images/statements-download.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=XCQqCRepRDP5H4K0\&q=85\&s=d43ab3bcdd00cb88b85df7cd1f955b4d)

Your finished statement.

## Date rules

| Rule | Why |
| - | - |
| Earliest start: April 2023 | Price history for statements starts then. |
| Latest end: 2 days ago | So recent transactions have time to confirm. |
| Longest range: 2 years | Make two statements for longer periods. |

## Full Period or Monthly

**Download** saves the format you're viewing.

* **Full Period:** one summary for the whole range, then each wallet's transactions.
* **Monthly:** one summary per month, then that month's transactions.

## What's on the PDF

* A summary table: opening balance, money out, money in, and closing balance per wallet.
* A page of transactions for each wallet. Unconfirmed transactions show "PENDING".
* Your total in BTC. Non-USD statements also show an approximate value in that currency.
* Your name and address, if you added them.

Currency values use saved daily prices from Mempool. They are approximate.

## Hoseki Verified

Every statement carries the **Hoseki Verified** badge.

![Statement PDF showing the Hoseki Verified badge](https://mintcdn.com/hoseki-corp/XCQqCRepRDP5H4K0/images/statements-pdf-verified.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=XCQqCRepRDP5H4K0\&q=85\&s=85ec44b53a84d4e936f3ec3a6ec9cd94)

The Hoseki Verified badge.

It means each wallet on the statement passed [proof of control](https://help.bitcoincontrolcenter.com/accounts/verify-ownership.md) in Control Center: you signed a message with that wallet's key.

* Balances and transactions come straight from the Bitcoin blockchain.
* Signing does not move funds.
* Control was proven when you verified the wallet, not on the statement date.

## Manage statements

Open **Statements**. Switch between card and list view.

* **View** opens a statement. **Download** saves it.
* The trash icon deletes it, after you confirm. This can't be undone. Statement numbers are not reused.

## Where lookups go (desktop)

To build a statement, Control Center looks up every transaction in your wallets. By default this uses **mempool.space**. It is fast, but mempool.space sees your IP address and transactions.

To keep lookups on your own server, open **Settings** → **Statement data** → **Configured Electrum server**. It is slower, especially over Tor. See [Settings](https://help.bitcoincontrolcenter.com/settings/app-settings.md#statement-data-desktop).

## If a statement fails

| Message | Fix |
| - | - |
| **Generation was interrupted.** | The app restarted during generation. Generate it again. |
| **Couldn't get Bitcoin prices for this statement.** | Check your internet connection. On StartOS or Umbrel, check Mempool is running. |
| **Couldn't load all transactions.** | Check your Electrum connection or statement data source. Try again. |
| **Statement date range cannot exceed 2 years** | Pick a shorter range. |
| **Statements must end at least 2 days ago** | Move the end date back. |
